I swim regularly to help manage chronic pain and because I enjoy swimming. Ten years ago I completed the Shaw Method Teacher Training diploma - through this I learned to apply principles of the Alexander Technique to my own swimming and teaching. Initially I worked with Steven Shaw and taught on the Shaw Method Teacher training course. In addition to my training in the Shaw Method of Swimming, I am an ASA trained teacher and have qualifications in teaching people with disabilities and in Lifesaving. |
My teaching continues to be based on Alexander Technique principles. It is also informed by the principles of chronic pain management and a strong interest in the qualities of water, especially buoyancy. For ten years, much of my work was based in three NHS Staff pools in London. These have now been shut and most of my teaching is at the Ozone Club. I also have exclusive use of a hydrotherapy pool. I am looking for a pool suitable for deep water teaching. |
Words about water |
During lessons, I am usually in the water and use a combination of words, hands-on direction and demonstration for teaching. |
